On July 4th, 1976, the City of Seaford celebrated America's Bicentennial by dedicating its official Seaford Time Capsule and sealed with the intention of being opened 50 years later. On July 7th, 2026, fifty years later, community members gathered on the front steps of City Hall for the official opening of the 1976 Time Capsule. The ceremony marked a once in a lifetime moment, bringing together residents, past City of Seaford staff, local leaders, Mayor and Council, and City staff to reflect on Seaford's history while looking ahead to its future.

The original time capsule was dedicated under the leadership of Mayor W.A. Slatcher, along with the 1976 City Council: Councilman M.R. Nesbitt, Councilman C.E. Butler, Councilman H.E. Nutter Jr., Councilman W.L. Cash, Councilman G.E. Higgins, and City Manager W.W. Crosby.

The 2026 opening ceremony was led by Mayor Matthew MacCoy and supported by Vice-Mayor Dan H. Henderson, Councilman Orlando Holland, Councilman Michael Bradley, Councilman Alan Quillen, Councilwoman Dr. Stephanie Grassett, and City Manager Charles Anderson.
