The City of Seaford will hold its annual Municipal Election on Saturday, April 16, 2022, during the hours of 7:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at City Hall, 414 High Street, Seaford, DE 19973. The offices for which an election will be held are One Mayor and One Council Member seat. The Mayor serves a two-year term and Council Members serve a three-year term.
You must meet the following to qualify to hold the office of Mayor or Council Member:
• Be a bona fide citizen of the United States and of the State of Delaware and a resident of the City of Seaford for at least one (1) year next preceding the annual election; provided, however, that no full-time employee of the City of Seaford shall serve as Mayor or City Councilmember during such time as he/she is a full-time employee of the City of Seaford; and
• At least eighteen (18) years of age; and
• A non-delinquent taxpayer of all capitation and property taxes of the City of Seaford for at least one (1) year next preceding the annual election. 65 Del. Laws, c. 249
• Shall not have been convicted of a felony. 76 Del. Laws, c. 153
All candidates shall notify the City Manager in writing of their candidacy for the office of Mayor or City Councilperson; or five (5) or more persons qualified to vote in the annual election may file the name of the candidate for the office of Mayor or City Councilmember with the City Manager, provided the candidate endorses his/her written consent thereon.
All notifications of candidacy can be obtained in City Hall, 414 High Street, Seaford, DE 19973. All candidates must have filed by 5:00 p.m., E.S.T., February 25, 2022 in order to be eligible for candidacy in the April 16, 2022 election. Registration can be completed at City Hall, 414 High Street, Seaford, DE 19973. Registration hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. or by appointment if you cannot register during these normal business hours.
